Usually ill hit the tank with 30 psi, bleed some out and hit it again then shake it for two min and repeat. There are some other tips, like having the solution cold helps dissolve the co2 , but not having the co2 get into solution the way you are…

Im not sure how much oxygen actually seeps through the wood, i know some does, and if were not completely purging the barrel of oxygen, i'll agree with david but i would still want a blanket of co2 over the top of the beer just while…

Of oxygen, not with oxygen, though I know Gordon strong has an explosive story about what not to do when getting it ready to age in, I would suggest reading that bit .

I agree with keanan, I'm sure if you put any sanitizing solution in there it may soak into the wood, and we don't want that to seep back out into the beer. I would suggest purging it of oxygen prior to placing fermented beer into it though.

Good point, In the first planting of the hops. I did add good soil, and sand to the hop boxes. One thing possible is the high clay content in the area. The hop roots do extend well beyond hop boxes.  I do water when needed. Plus, I use fertilizers to assist in the growth of the hops.
