"I have Cascade, Willamette hops that are about 5 years old. I need to dig out around the rhizomes. Then fertilize the soil and add some sand. The hop cones are good sized. But when dried smell somewhat like hay. When I dig around…"

"that would be kinda of pain to have to pull them all out and dig deeper, i wonder if there would be an easier way to treat the surrounding soil, im not a gardener, but im sure there are things out there."

"Nice to you you on here Curt, those hops looks nice though, there huge, one day maybe ill have room to do the same, though oddly my brewing keeps me from saving for a home haha, viscous cycle"

"Good point, In the first planting of the hops. I did add good soil, and sand to the hop boxes. One thing possible is the high clay content in the area. The hop roots do extend well beyond hop boxes.  I do water when needed.…"

"thats odd, are you still getting a good yield out of these? i havn't grown only read one book, got to get another but i wonder if its something around the yard that might make it smell funky, i've always been told after first year things…"
