The Organizer will be sent contact information for area judges within two weeks of scheduling the competition with the BJCP. Don't forget to invite the local professional brewers to judge a flight or two!   Bill VanZante BJCP #C0375

Are you not worried about placing those bags directly on the wall of the freezer, i would think there may be to much contact with the cooling elements that way, i know nothing about what you are trying to do but am very interested, keep us posted on…

Sourcing Food Grade Plastic Bags

Does anyone have a good source for large, inexpensive food-grade liners? I have a temperature controlled chest freezer that is too small for conventional fermenting vessels. I would like to experiment with fermentation using food grade plastic liners directly inside the freezer. I am still working out the details for the top of the bag but I have a couple ideas for keeping the lid assembly from floating on the beer.Anyway,I found some bags on Grainger but they seem a bit pricey at $53 each. …See More

I would agree, that really looks like mold to me.  I would even be concerned about breathing it, the spores can cause respritory irritation or even infection.

This is interesting because I'm right in the middle of studying this stuff. I learning about Fungi/Molds being forms of bacteria, along with other forms. I don't know exactly what kind of mold that is... but it's mold.  And to be…

Experimental oatmeal black Belgian

A few months back I brewed an Oatmeal RIS and the efficiency on the new system was so good that I didn't want the extra points going down the drain. I collected the cooled wort in a sanitized plastic bucket and pitched a medley of non-yeast inoculants; Brettanomyces bruxellensis, Brettanomyces lambicus, Pediococcus and another tube of some funkiness I can't recall - maybe some enteric bacteria. I let this mixture stew, uncovered for two weeks at 60F before pitching an old packet of dry yeast.…See More

Hop Stopper. I've used it once and it seemed to reduce the flow during chill recirculation. I only had 10 ounces of hops in the kettle too so I may need to start bagging up the hops on the big boys.
