Does anyone have a good source for large, inexpensive food-grade liners? I have a temperature controlled chest freezer that is too small for conventional fermenting vessels. I would like to experiment with fermentation using food grade plastic liners directly inside the freezer. I am still working out the details for the top of the bag but I have a couple ideas for keeping the lid assembly from floating on the beer.Anyway,I found some bags on Grainger but they seem a bit pricey at $53 each.

Thanks!

Above are two links that have good food grade bags for cheap.  I am a Packaging Engineer for a company in Story City and we have used these types of bags before at our facility or at our customers.  Depending on the dimensions of the freezer the guesseted bags would probably fit much better.  As far as the thickness 3-4 mil should be sufficient if you are not trying to move the bag once it is in the freezer and it lays against the walls.  Since these are just coex LLDPE films and your are not using them in a heated environment there is little to no concern with migration of chemicals from the plastic.  The bags you have listed above are over kill for the use you are looking at.  Let me know if you have any more questions or concerns about these bags.

Are you not worried about placing those bags directly on the wall of the freezer, i would think there may be to much contact with the cooling elements that way, i know nothing about what you are trying to do but am very interested, keep us posted on how this goes. I have heard of others using this method, kind of like the "wine in a bag" thing, it works.
