For those interested in the BJCP Exam...

This is just one option; just thought I'd throw it out there.  Last year we put a study group together and had tasting/training sessions every week for a couple months prior to the exam.

I'm not familiar with the site you linked to (I'll check it out tonight) but I'm definitely up for a class/study group of some sort.
I'm down with rocking this test.
Count me in, its cheaper if we sign up as a group, 10% off, and we could get that beer sensory kit from siebel like torrey had as a group again for those taking the course.

Has anyone looked into the new exam format? 200 web-based questions. Pass/fail scoring. That seems MUCH easier than the old 2+ hour written exam format, which is now evidently given to only those shooting for national rank or above.

Anyway, I know we're still like seven months out but I'm already itching to get started!

When I signed us up for the test they indicated they did not know when they would switch to the new testing format. Any judges or members have any insight?

I'm getting emails from people wanting to sign up for the test. I want to let club members sign up first. I created an event and wouls like those interested to RSVP to that event. We have many details to sort out

Here the link to Matt's event. I RSVPed.

I just got word from the BJCP that they have put in place their new testing format. Check the link in Keenan's original post. This will affect our upcoming exam.

The initial test in now an on-line pass/fail test. It should be available sometime after April 1st. You pass that test and you are a Provisional Judge. You then have 1 year to pass the tasting exam.

The second test is the tasting exam, and that is what we are going to host in August. You must pass the online test and provide proof of your score in order to participate in our tasting exam. It is a proctored exam with 6 samples and, depending on your score, you can become an Apprentice, Recognized, or Certified judge. This is a test that can be retaken in order to improve your score and allow you to move up in rank and allow you to go to the next level in judging.

The Third test is an essay test. You have to score at least 80% on the tasting test and have at least 10 judging experience points to qualify. You must pass this test to move up to National and Master judging level.

I urge everyone interested to review the process at the BJCP website and start stufying for the online test. We will arrange study sessions for the tasting test in the next couple of months.
